Local LevelOn the local level:
What we can do to help this problem on the local level to have grocers put discounts on "ugly" food. It would be helpful for both the customers & the grocers. For the grocers that "ugly" food that they are selling at a discount they would normally throw away. It's extra money for them! For the customers, they can get food that is cheaper that tastes the exact same! Grocery stores could also educate people on the fact that ugly food is the exact same as normal food besides how it looks. That would mean people would come back for more. |
National Level On the national level:
What we can do to help this problem on the national level is to, starting in the U.S, have the government require a compost bin in fast food restaurants and households so excess food will be composted, not wasted. The government could help by having garbage trucks pick up compost as well as recycling and trash, so it can be transported to facilities. There are many local facilities that will compost for free or for a low cost. The government can help more by paying for composting. One other thing that the government could do is include compost classes in school so the newest generation will know how to compost. |
Global LevelOn the global level:
What we can do to help this problem on the global level is to have countries share all the ways they get rid of food waste and help countries that don’t know how reduce food waste. These ideas could be ones such as the compost bin idea. They could share this info via the United Nations Agriculture Organization of FAO, in the big international meetings. |
